“Zapper may at first bill itself as a humble QR code-reader, but it has the potential to rival the likes of Apple Pay in the future of mobile payment.
Apple’s mobile payment system, which is currently only available to try out Stateside, relies on compatible NFC payment terminals within any of the service’s retailer partners, Zapper relies on the humble QR code instead.
The service itself actually lets you pay for everything from taxis, bills and online services as well as allowing you to make a charity donation, but the focus right now is on eating out.
We tripped it along to Spanish restaurant Ibérica in Marylebone: one of the participating eateries in Zapper’s UK rollout (Zapper’s already up and running in Australia, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa and Sweden) to meet with the company’s European MD, Bradley Duke.”
