Will The Power of Mobile Make Bank Branches Disappear?

“A recent report from Bain & Company entitled, 'Customer Loyalty in Retail Banking' found that mobile banking is more likely to increase a customer's likelihood of recommending the bank than any other channel interaction and that features such as remote deposit and even the ability to check a balance impact loyalty. The research also found that once customers moved to mobile, roughly half stated they made fewer visits to the branch which can lower costs.”

South Africa: Nedbank mobile payment device will help SMEs

“Nedbank has launched a cellphone-based point-of-sale device enabling small to medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to transact more safely with their clients, while cutting down on transaction costs.

Nedbank PocketPOS operates through a smartphone connected to a secure card reader, which allows smaller businesses to make debit and credit card transactions anywhere.”

2 New Malware Threats Identified

“The sophistication of two newly identified malware strains reveals just how stealthy these attacks are becoming. And security experts who discovered these strains say detection is proving increasingly challenging.

Researchers at Trusteer in early January discovered a new malware variant that compromises online browsing sessions by injecting fake Web pages. So far, one leading bank and a handful of non-financial websites have been affected, and Trusteer expects the Trojan to spread.”

Apple's iPhone Update Brings It No Closer to Payments

“When mobile payments finally make their debut on the iPhone, no one will be surprised.

Apple has been notoriously slow at venturing into transactions. The latest iteration of its mobile operating system, iOS6, is a testament to the crawl.

This past fall, iPhone users who updated their devices got a look at Apple's de facto mobile wallet, Passbook, which now holds multiple loyalty cards and coupons and tickets that are redeemable at the counter with a barcode displayed on the device's screen.”
